Tan/Sunburn

There are people who actively go out to get tanned and then there are those who absolutely hate it when they get tanned. And those tan lines don’t even wash away; they are stubborn and it takes a long time for our skin to get back to its natural color. Sun-tan however often means that the tanned exposed part of the skin is already damaged. But when the sun exposure causes so much skin damage that it leads to sunburn, it definitely needs to be treated professionally

What causes tan/sunburn?

Tanning is basically our body’s way to protect itself from harmful UV rays. Melanin, which causes the skin to darken or lighten, is released when our skin is exposed to the sun’s rays. This creates a shield against the harmful rays, protecting the skin, to some extent. In the process of creating the shield, as more melanin is released, your skin gets darker and that’s how you get tanned.

Now, if your skin remains exposed to the sun for too long, it would lead to the skin turning red, burning and even scalding or peeling. This is called as a sunburn. Repeatedly damaging the skin with such exposure and sunburns could lead to other problems like dry skin, rough skin, patchy skin with dark spots or even something more severe like skin cancer – melanoma.

Treatments for tan/sunburn

Prevention, in this case, is definitely a better option, and therefore applying sunscreen generously when heading out is a must. However, sometimes that is either not sufficient or not an available option for some. In such cases, there are several treatment options to choose from. At PHI Clinic, we offer treatment plans that are holistic in nature that focus on helping you understand the lifestyle and dietary changes you’d need to sustain the treatment plans, as well as prescribe medications when necessary. Some of the cosmetic procedures that you could be recommended are as follows:

  • Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure that helps even out the skin tone by exfoliating the dead skin cells and the superficial skin layer. This brightens your skin and makes your skin tone even. This procedure is also called Skin Polishing.
  • Medicated peels make use of the exfoliation method as well, with the help of certain chemical peels, that helps in removing the dead skin cells and the top layer, making way for healthier, youthful skin. This procedure can help with pigmentation and helps even out the skin tone.
  • Medicated facials will help you rejuvenate your skin with medicated products for your specific skin type. Brightening facials or photo facials (laser facials) could be some of the options that would be used to even out your skin tone.

Depending on the severity of your tan or sunburn, our experts will plan out a treatment method that will best suit your needs.
