DARK CIRCLES

The appearance of dark circles under the eyes can be a nightmare for some people and while most of the time it could be about appearance, it is also about looking and being healthy. This is why at PHI Clinic; we approach skin treatment holistically and focus on not just your physical appearance but also on your lifestyle and dietary habits.

Causes of dark circles

The skin around our eyes is extremely thin, bordering on translucent. Therefore the blood vessels under this particular skin area, become more visible if they are under some outside pressure or stress like poor sleeping habits, stress, extreme alcohol consumption, a very high salt intake, dehydration, etc. Once the blood vessels flare up due to any of these causes, they give the appearance of dark circles forming under our eyes.

Dark circles could also be a sign of ageing and most commonly appear in the older population. With ageing, there comes the loss of skin tissue and collagen which makes the skin weaker, duller, and more prone to making the blood vessels visible due to the thinning of the skin. In some people, dark circles could also be hereditary and are known as Periorbital Hyperpigmentation. Another cause for dark circles could be allergies or hay fever. Sun exposure leading to Melasma, could also lead to changes in melanin production which could result in the formation of dark circles.

Treatments for dark circles

We offer several treatments for dark circles at our clinic that range from non-invasive or minimally invasive, to invasive, surgical treatments. However, because we focus on a holistic approach to skin-care and health, we start with lifestyle and dietary corrections for our clients. We also recommend home care remedies and products that will help them sustain and maintain the results of the treatments that they take at our clinic. The treatments that we provide for dark circles are as follows:

1. Medicated under-eye peels help exfoliate the skin very rigorously and shed the dead cells while in the process, making way for a healthier, younger-looking, and even skin.

2.PRP (platelet-rich plasma) which is rich with platelets, growth factors, mesenchymal stem cells and cytokines, is injected under eyes. This then helps boost the new collagen production and helps revive elastin and collagen under your skin surface.

3.Micro-needling is a collagen-inducing treatment that reduces dark circles and puffiness

4. Ultrasound or HIFU (High intensity focused ultrasound) causes controlled damage of the tissue, making way for new collagen growth, reducing the dark circles and boosting healthier skin.

5. Lasers use heat energy to target the damaged cells and help make way for new collagen formation.

6. Radio Frequency (RF) targets the problem area and helps drain the toxins, reducing pigmentation.
